Kayaking from Crapolla with Volare nel Blue

In fact, right at the Fiordo di Crapolla, Volare nel Blue organizes kayaking excursions along the coasts and bays of Massa Lubrense. We had the pleasure of interviewing Gaetano Guarracino, instructor and founder of the activity.
Tell us, how did you come up with the idea of proposing kayak tours starting from the Fiordo di Crapolla?
I chose the Fiordo di Crapolla , first of all because I have a deep connection with this area, since my grandparents were fishermen and I also spent most of my life near the sea. Being a place still not very touristy, I decided to start this activity with the aim of making it known to more people. With kayaking tours, I offer the opportunity to explore Crapolla from a unique perspective, in order to promote the territory in an eco-sustainable way. Kayaking is the ideal adventure companion for those who want to immerse themselves in the authentic and wild beauty of the sea and enjoy it in peace.
Do participants reach the Fiordo di Crapolla on their own?
Participants can reach independently the starting point of the excursion, thanks to the clear signs along the descent route. To reach the Fiordo di Crapolla, you can consider two options. The first is on foot, with the possibility to park the car in the square in Torca and go down along a pedestrian path of about 700 steps. Alternatively, you can go down by motorbike to the resort “La Guardia“, reducing the walk by half an hour. During the descent, the breathtaking panorama certainly contributes to make the fatigue more pleasant.
What are the requirements for excursions?
Among the main requirements to participate, it is essential to be at least 16 years old and to be able to swim. To ensure the safety of the participants, it is important to consider that the kayak, being an inflatable and relatively light boat, can withstand a weight of 120 pounds at most. Moreover, being a sport that requires physical efforts both to reach the place and to practice the activity itself, it is suitable for those who are healthy and active.
What are the destinations you can visit with your kayak tours?
We organize three types of guided tours:
The first excursion is called Pescatore: from the Fiordo di Crapolla you reach the bay of Recommone. During the itinerary, if the sea conditions allow, we visit some caves, we pass through the Island of Isca (also known as the hermitage of Eduardo De Filippo) and the Saracen tower of Crapolla, before returning to the starting point. The duration of the tour is about an hour and a half.
The second excursion takes about two and a half hours and is called Mamma Mia: it always starts from Crapolla and you get to Marina del Cantone, to the bay below the tower of Montalto, where you can stop for a swim. We then continue to Recommone Beach and return to Crapolla.
The third excursion, which lasts about four and a half hours, is called Arabic Adventure and leads to the beautiful Bay of Ieranto. Once in Ieranto, we make a stop to swim and visit the picturesque bay, then we go back through Marina del Cantone and Recommone Beach, with the possibility to visit the caves and make the tour of the island of Isca before returning to Crapolla.
What are the best times of the year to participate in your kayak excursions?
Ideal periods are from May to October, when the weather is more favorable. To make the most of the excursions, it is advisable to start early in the morning, when the air is fresher and cleaner and nature is at its best. In addition, the morning light provides perfect illumination for photography, allowing you to capture breathtaking views with vivid colors and sharp details.

For excursions we accept up to 4 participants, with the constant presence of both me and other instructors, to ensure assistance to all participants.
