Position: Termini
The church of Santa Croce was established in 1566 in Termini, at the behest of Monsignor Belloni. The current church stands on the ancient and consolidated structure of Santa Croce, known since the XV century. Rebuilt in the first half of the XVII century, this suggestive church has a single nave, embellished by a large apse and a majestic dome.
Inside, there are four arches, two on each side, each containing an altar. Above the high altar, made of precious marble, stands a canvas by Massimo Stanzione depicting the Pietà, with Jesus died at the foot of the Cross.
In the right transept, after the sacristy, stands the marble altar of the Virgin of the Rosary, erected in 1867 by the homonymous Congregation. This altar, before the renovation of the church, was dedicated to Saint Cataldo and housed temporarily the famous relic, now venerated in the Cathedral. Another altar, dating from the XV century, was initially abandoned, but later rebuilt and is now dedicated to the souls of Purgatory
In the left transept, at the entrance of the church, there is the ancient altar that existed before the construction of the new church. A painting depicting the Madonna and Sant’ Antonio and San Michele dominates it.
At the entrance of the church of Santa Croce there is the charming square, bordered by a arcade that enhances its beauty and religious atmosphere.
