Church of San Pietro in Monticchio: A Heritage of History and Art

Located in the picturesque town of Monticchio, the Church of San Pietro has a centuries-old history of restoration and transformation. Rebuilt in 1642, it has preserved some of the original altars of the previous structure, enriching itself over time with new elements.

In the 19th century marble altars were erected, and in 1833 and 1881 important restoration work followed which further enhanced the building. The church, characterized by a large single nave with apse and dome, retains a decorative floor of the eighteenth century. On the sides of the nave there are eight chapels, four on each side, which contribute to make the interior particularly harmonious and rich in sacred art.
