Position: Nerano
The church of Jesus Salvatore, which is the center of the old hamlet of Nerano, seems to have roots dating back to the 15th century, as documents dating from the first half of the 15th century testify. Its importance was confirmed in 1613, when the bishop of Massa Lubrense, Monsignor Gironda, elevated the church to parish.
Over the centuries, the church has undergone various transformations and expansions. Therefore a first major change took place in the early 17th century, although dimensions remained limited. In fact it was only around 1840 that there was a major expansion of the church structure. This was possible, thanks to the effort of the parish priest Caputo and the generous contribution of the devotees. This intervention led to the inclusion of a transept and the purchase of five marble altars, presumably from the Church of Jesus, which replaced the earlier made in stucco. In addition, the original tile floor of the 18th century was replaced by a marble floor, giving the church a new splendor.
