The Church of Jesus Salvatore’s magnificent architecture and intricate details make it a significant symbol of the faith and history of the community, inspiring and uniting the faithful over the centuries.

Built at the end of the XVI century, on foundations that date back to a previous church of the XV century, the majestic church of the Holy Salvatore of Schiazzano was completed around 1624. This is testified by the date engraved on the pediment of the entrance, which underlines its historical and religious importance.

Between 1673 and 1792, the interior of the church of Jesus Salvatore in Schiazzano was completed. Furthermore, in the chapel on the right, founded by Costanzo Cangiano in the 17th century was dedicated to Saint Nicholas. There is also a painting of the saint made in 1673 by the sicilian, Michele Gregorio. The marble altar of 1792, where the founder is interred, is enriched with a funerary epigraph showing the coat of arms of the people.

The church was consecrated between 1689 and 1763 and Monsignor Ettore Gironda elevated it to the parish in 1689. Similarly, Monsignor Giuseppe Bellotti consecrated it on October 20, 1763, as evidenced by an epigraph in the sacristy.

In 1799, the altar of the Rosary, located at the door, which belongs to the Congregation of the same name, was replaced. Then it was Giuseppe and Liberato Mollo with the sailors of Schiazzano who donated the new marble altar, as an epigraph shows.

The church’s architecture is characterized by its simplicity and greatness: a single nave decorated with a luxurious vault, a large apse, and an impressive dome. The Main Arch, placed between two side chapels, is a focal point in the sacred space. Along the walls of the nave, however, there are three others altars on each side, which enrich the spirituality of the environment.

Particularly worthy is the Main Altar, dating from the XVIII century, made with precious polychrome marbles. In addition, the altar contains the simulacrum of the Holy Salvatore, kept in a majestic alterpiece adorned with columns and a broken pediment, it is a symbol of veneration and devotion for the religious community. Therefore the presence of the sacred statue further accentuates the spiritual significance and sacredness of the place of worship.
