A day in Nerano: between sea, history and flavours

Nerano is a charming hamlet of Massa Lubrense that fascinates visitors with its beautiful sea, scenic paths leading to beaches and coves, fascinating history and traditional cuisine. Here is a perfect itinerary to visit the wonders of this place.

In the morning: breakfast and relax on the beach

Start your day in Nerano with a breakfast in one of the typical local bars. Enjoy a good Neapolitan coffee accompanied by a croissant or other local sweets, preparing you for a day of exploration and relaxation. After breakfast, you can head to one of the most famous beaches in the area. The Bay of Marina del Cantone is an ideal destination with its crystal clear waters and pebble beach. This bay offers all the comforts, with bathing establishments, restaurants and stretches of free beach for those who prefer to manage themselves. It is also a perfect place for snorkeling, thanks to the variety of sea creatures that populate this stretch of sea.

From the beach of Marina del Cantone, through a panoramic path, you can reach the characteristic Beach of Recommone, a small corner of paradise.

Beach of Recommone

Recommone is reachable both by sea and by land, through a short and panoramic path that, in about twenty minutes of walk, leads to the bay. Just before arriving, you can admire the Recommone Tower. During the summer, Recommone beach offers both equipped beaches and free beach areas. The sea is beautiful and offers an incomparable view of the islets Li Galli and Isca. In the small cove of Recommone, at sea level, there is the Grotta di Recommone also known as the Grotta dei Pescatori, which provided fishermen with a shady area in which to anchor.

Lunch: a taste of local delicacies

After a morning of sun and sea, you can not miss a fresh dish like the famous Spaghetti alla Nerano, to be enjoyed in one of the local restaurants near the beaches or in the center of the hamlet. This traditional dish, loved by characters like Totò and Eduardo De Filippo, combines pasta, zucchini and Provolone del Monaco, creating a unique creaminess that enhances the flavors of Mediterranean cuisine

Afternoon : panoramic and historical explorations

After lunch, for lovers of history and culture there is the Church of Jesus Salvatore to visit, it is thought it was built around the XV century. It was renovated in 1600 and in 1613 elected a parish. It is characterized by a majolica dome.

Those who want to explore Nerano far and wide, walking over its polished pebbles of Marina del Cantone will arrive at the Church of Sant’Antonio da Padova, founded by the inhabitants of the area in 1646. It is a small masterpiece of Mediterranean marine art, perfectly inserted in the context, enriched by a floor of painted riggiole reproducing scenes of fishing. The two destinations are about half an hour’s walk from each other and ten minutes by public transport.

Alternatively you can explore some scenic trails that surround Nerano. One of the most fascinating routes is the one that leads to the Bay of Ieranto.

Giornata a Nerano e Ieranto

If you prefer a more peaceful atmosphere, it is worth visiting the Bay of Ieranto, located within a nature reserve. This beach can only be reached via a panoramic path that offers breathtaking views of the sea and surrounding cliffs. We are on the eastern side of Punta Campanella, a territory sacred first to the Greeks, who erected here a temple to the Sirens, and then to the Romans, who renamed the temple to the cult of the Goddess Minerva. The beach is located in a cove exactly in front of the Faraglioni of Capri, in fact at sunset you can enjoy a breathtaking view. The path that starts from Nerano is about two kilometers long and the descent takes about half an hour. Calculate a little more for the climb, to be faced strictly at sunset!

Evening : between relax and romantic walk

After the excursion, you can return to the center of Nerano or the beach of Marina del Cantone to dine in one of the typical restaurants in the area.

Between a good dish of spaghetti, sea and sun, you can not help but feel satisfied. Try to believe, Nerano is waiting for you!
